The development agency for the voluntary arts Voluntary Arts Network aims to promote participation in the arts and crafts across the UK and Republic of Ireland. We recognise that they are a key part of our culture and as such they are absolutely vital to our health, social and economic development. Over half the UK adult population is involved in the voluntary arts and crafts - those arts and crafts that people undertake for self-improvement, social networking and leisure, but not primarily for payment. They are wide-ranging and include folk, dance, drama, literature, media, music, visual arts, crafts and applied arts, and festivals.
The Voluntary Arts Directory of Amateur Art and Craft Forms First edition
This directory – the first of its kind – lists dozens of amateur art and craft forms practiced. It provides a resource for individuals who are keen to express themselves creatively, but are as yet unsure of which art or craft form is right for them. If you are inspired by any of those featured in the publication, you can contact the relevant umbrella or lead body for further details of groups or workshops in your area.

Voluntary Arts photo gallery We have set up an online gallery in order to display photographs of voluntary arts groups. This is a great way to advertise your organisation, showcasing who you are, what you do and how you do it! The idea is to raise the profile of your organisation and keep up-to-date with what other arts groups are doing.
Taking part in the gallery is easy. Simply click on the link on the left-hand side of this page for more information and a step-by-step guide on submitting your images. We do the actual task of uploading your images onto the gallery and you have total control over the level of copyright and licensing on your images.
This is all explained further in the Voluntary Arts Online Gallery section of our website. We look forward to taking a look at your photos!

How can we help you? Use our new Google search to find what you are looking for from the vast resources of this website:
Read the latest VAN briefings 130 - Developing European links and opportunities
The most successful voluntary arts and crafts groups are those that have the strongest networks, and yet we often find ourselves confined by our national borders. If we turn our attention to the rest of Europe, however, we discover a wealth of voluntary and amateur arts and crafts activity – a pool of potential partners, information sources and funding opportunities. This briefing will help you get started on that journey.
131 - Community Benefit - measuring the impact of arts and crafts activity
This briefing gives you an overview of the various ways you can measure the quality and impact of your activities, explains who might be interested in hearing about them, and provides guidance on how you can communicate this in ways they will understand.
To read past briefings, visit our VAN briefings page.
Did you know we are on Facebook? This group has been set up to encourage networking and discussion on issues affecting the voluntary arts sector, using this popular social networking facility. |
