The Peoples’ Republic of Creativity – Get Involved

Join the Street Performance Lab in Derry/Londonderry

16-24 May 2015

The Peoples’ Republic of Creativity will take place during Voluntary Arts Week ( which will for a short period turn the Verbal Arts Centre and surrounding outdoor space in Derry/Londonderry into a republic of creativity.

Artists from the country of Cardboardia along with In Your Space, the Verbal Arts Centre, Urban Vizualz and Voluntary Arts Ireland will lead the celebration.

We are also looking for people to join the Cardboardia street performance lab for a week full of creativity and collaboration and to help with the construction, preparation and presentation of the event including the making of a temporary Embassy (out of cardboard).

All creative citizens over the age of 18 are welcome to apply – enthusiastic hobbyists, professionals and beginners – and there are two modules:

Module 1

Get involved in designing the world that will become the centre of Voluntary Arts Week in Derry-Londonderry. Learn basic and advanced techniques of creating costumes, decorations and objects from cardboard. The program could be particularly interesting for artists and architects, school teachers and designers.

Module 2

Get involved with the street performances themselves, under the curation of Mathijs Stegink, NL (artists, animator, trainer and teacher), Olesya Kandalintseva, Rus (artist, designer, workshop curator at Made in Cardboardia) and Wolfgang Hauck (street theater director, stilts walker, homeopath). Stilt-walkers are particularly welcome to take part!

Participation in the People’s Republic of Creativity is free, but spaces are limited, so be sure to fill in the application form. Participants will be required to take care of their costs/expenses as well as travel to and stay in Derry-Londonderry.
