10,000 Origami Doves
As a BBC Get Creative Champion I am endeavouring to create 10,000 origami doves of peace this year. As part of BBC Get Creative Day at the Createathon in the Ulster Museum on Saturday 2 April 2016 everyone can have fun helping me create more doves or drop off doves that they’ve already created.
The idea for the project is to engage as many people as possible in a Northern Ireland countrywide creative project by teaching the art of origami, an ancient art form that can create wonderful shapes using just one small square of paper (recycled).
The 10,000 origami doves is a community based project and anyone can participate in this simple and fun art form. To create a dove and be part of the project you can follow the tutorials and links on:
I am also doing some free public tutorials as follows:
Belfast Skills Fair – St Georges Market, Belfast, Wednesday 9 March 2016, 10am – 2:30pm
BBC Get Creative Day – Ulster Museum, Botanic Gardens, Belfast. Saturday 2 April 2016, 11am– 3pm
In the weeks running up to the BBC Get Creative Day private tutorials can be booked free of charge for any larger groups such as schools and community based organisations. The sessions would last no longer than an hour. Enquiries to Kate: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please check for updates on the 10,000 origami doves FB page and website upsidedownboat.com where I will update running totals and add drop off points for doves made by individuals or groups.
When handing in your doves it would be an immense help to the project if the doves can be threaded in strings of 10 , 50 or 100 with the number of doves per string written clearly on the dove threaded on last. 10,000 is a lot to thread up and count!
Kate will be at the Createathon in the Ulster Museum on Get Creative Day, Saturday 2 April 2016, 10am – 4pm.
