A once in a lifetime opportunityVoluntary Arts was keen to encourage members of voluntary arts organisations to make the most of the opportunities to participate in London 2012 and appointed a Once in a Lifetime project officer to help to coordinate the voluntary arts sector's involvement. Helen Thomas has been liaising with officers at LOCOG (London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games) and looking out for opportunities since April 2010. Helen will continue to communicate current opportunities as well as news about how groups around the UK are getting involved, so please keep the 'Cultural Olympiad' option selected under ‘Personalise this site’ and keep checking back here if you would like to stay informed. The Olympic Opening Ceremony: "a show built by volunteers"
After six months of rehearsals Danny Boyle's vision for the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony has been spectacularly brought to life. Danny Boyle said during the final dress rehearsal " This is a show that's been built by volunteers. The 10,000 who have come out in all weathers ..........they really are the most extraordinary group of people. This show is theirs. This country is theirs." Light the way to the Paralympic Games
The London 2012 Paralympic Torch Relay runs from 24 to 29 August. There will be Flame Lighting events, Flame Festivals, Flame Celebrations and a 24 hour Torch Relay.
