Volunteer Community Coordinators for Open City Merseyside. - posted 31.8.2010 area: Liverpool
Open City Merseyside is inviting volunteers to be part of an exciting project that encourages people to explore the arts scene in Liverpool.
Open City aims to make people feel welcome, supported and excited about attending local arts events and activities. Friendly and enthusiastic volunteers are needed to work closely with community groups that don’t currently attend the arts. Each volunteer guides their group on a journey through Liverpool’s cultural scene, to experience some of the very best our city has to offer. The volunteers act as a liaison contact between community groups and arts venues to help organise visits. Through a small budget, the volunteers help to deliver a programme of arts visits for their group over a period of about six months.
All recruited volunteers attend a half-day Open City training session and, where possible, an induction at each of the cultural venues involved with the project. These visits give volunteers an in-depth knowledge of venues’ facilities, history and the range of programmes, enabling them to meet the needs of their community group.
As part of the project, volunteers will receive support from the Open City team and can attend monthly networking meetings and regular social events to share experiences and ideas. They will also have access to the Open City website to read relevant documents, a calendar with important cultural dates, and a message board to communicate with other volunteers.
If you are interested in volunteering with the Open City project, please email: gin.jacobucci@factcentre.co.uk
Open City is an audience development scheme. In Merseyside, it is run by Liverpool Arts Regeneration Consortium (LARC) – which includes the Tate Liverpool, the Philharmonic Hall, FACT, The Blucoat, the Playhouse/Everyman theatres, The Unity Theatre, The Biennial, and National Museums Liverpool.
