Sell! Sell! Sell! - Arts & Business Masterclass Series 2010/11 - posted 23.7.2010 area: Barclays Corporate, Belfast dates: Tuesday, 24 August 2010 (2.15-4.15pm)
To survive cuts in public funding, the arts sector will have to diversify income streams, aiming to achieve the ideal 33% split across income sources. Income generated through additional activity and sales will become increasingly important. So how can arts organisations identify whether they have saleable assets? What’s the risk? What’s the advantage? How do you do it?
Joanne South, A&B Research Manager presents tools that can help organisations to identify sellable services or products and the necessary steps to develop them, while the ‘in conversation’ discussion will showcase how arts organisations in Northern Ireland have been developing their entrepreneurial activity.
Cost £35 plus VAT (£41.20) ** If you come to the master class and decide you want to join as A&B arts member we will deduct the master class cost from the annual membership fee. A&B membership is £100 per year plus VAT for which you receive a wide range of support services and benefits offered by Arts & Business Northern Ireland.
To book your place or for further information email beverly.coomber@artsandbusiness.org.uk This Master Class is subsidised by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Barclays Corporate

Bealtaine (2010), a dream come true - posted 23.7.2010 area: RoI
(From EngAGE, Age & Opportunities new e-newsletter)
The theme for the Bealtaine festival 2010, celebrating creativity in older age, was 'Have dreams and speak them without fear' and people responded in their thousands. This year, the number of Bealtaine organisers increased by over one-quarter, from 403 to 513 and our estimated number of participants increased to over 101,000.
Some of the highlights included the following:
- All over the country, people greeted the sun with a Dawn Chorus;
- The Blow the Dust orchestra played to a packed National Concert Hall (with another Bealtaine orchestra set up in Cork);
- Ink captured the stories of people and their tattoos, some a history on the skin, others a mark to show a new beginning;
- Project Brand New Generation brought together performers in a great night of new beginnings (with some cycling at perilously high speeds around the stage). They are currently compiling feedback forms for the 2010 festival and are already planning a 'Gathering' of Bealtaine organisers for October to discuss Bealtaine 2011.

'Health Checks' for your volunteer management practice - posted 02.7.2010 area: NI
The Department for Social Development has provided funding to Volunteer Now to carry out “Health Checks” with organisations in relation to their volunteer management practice. By using the Investing in Volunteers framework, a trained assessor will benchmark your organisation against the standard and provide you with a development plan clearly outlining any areas for improvement/ gaps in practice and signposting to where you could get help to address them. All you have to do is answer a few questions, then sit back and await the diagnosis!
A Health Check will only take about half a day of your time but the benefits are far reaching. Our experience with Investing in Volunteers shows that some organisations struggle with self assessment techniques – by letting us do a Health Check we do this part of the work for you.
You can use your Health Check to plan your development and improve your volunteer management practice. It also means that, if you wish, you are just one step away from achieving the Investing in Volunteers award. If you choose to address your development plan within six months of the Health Check we will offer to assess you for the Award at a reduced rate!
(If you are registered with Volunteer Now - Downpatrick Office and you would like a health check contact Antje at Antje.Otto@volunteernow.co.uk
