Wentworth Pottery Open Day

Wentworth Pottery opened in Aldbrough in 2013 in a spare building in the grounds of our guest house. We aim to bring to the people of Holderness the opportunity to experience the exciting world of working with ceramics. Whether that is simply decorating a piece of Bisque, or creating a masterpiece from raw clay. Mark Teale has been dabbling in ceramics since the 1980’s when he opened his first studio in Crowle, North Lincolnshire. Our studio specializes in teaching and developing skills in clay for the local community and for visitors to the associated guest house.

The open day is suitable for everyone. If you are going to ‘play with the clay’ please don’t were your best clothes! Visitors are welcome to look around the workshop and try the various pieces of equipment. From the slab roller, the extruding devices and the wheel. Demonstrations will be given on the various aspects of ceramics from production (including commercial mold work) to decoration. As a simple but immediate example of production hand built Tea Bowls in the Japanese style will be encouraged.
