Opportunities Creative opportunities 'Bendy people' sought for performance residency Area: GlasgowDates: Initial meeting 16 May; Residency 24 - 28 July; Performance 29 & 30 July 2017 About Surge Surge runs projects to develop street arts, physical theatre and circus in Scotland. Working with artists, performance companies and educators at all levels of experience, it also runs the SURGE Festival, our annual event, which takes place each July, bringing new Scottish work and cutting edge international performances to the streets, theatres and unusual spaces of Glasgow. About the residency Surge seeks bendy people to take part in free week-long fitness residency at the Merchant City Festival. You will develop your flexibility, coordination and performance skills, with participants going on to take part in public performances, over the weekend, as part of the Surge Festival at the Merchant City Festival. Go along to their initial meeting on 16 May from 6–9 pm to learn about the residency and get a taster and test of your fitness level and see if it’s for you. This is a unique opportunity to take part in an internationally renowned street performance. Award-winning choreographer Willi Dorner's project 'Bodies in Urban Spaces' will have groups of dancers, climbers, traceurs, martial artists, yoga practitioners and fitness fans crammed in small corners, on stairs and in small space around the Merchant City on 29 & 30 July. Wearing brightly coloured clothes, you will be placing yourselves in doorways, alcoves and around lampposts, enticing the residents and festival-goers to rediscover their own city. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange attendance for the initial workshop.
