Equipment: You will need a laptop with Windows, Mac OS or Linux installed is needed to run processing – we are able to provide these but please feel free to bring your own if you are more comfortable with your machine. 

Learn the Java-based programming language Processing on this four-hour workshop, perfect for both artistic and educational purposes. Creative technologist Chris Ball will take you through all the things you need to know to get you started with Processing and its many applications.

Processing’s open source status encourages audience participation and development, allowing for a huge library of projects to draw inspiration from, and a community of users to contribute and push the possibilities of the software.

We welcome beginners with no previous experience of Processing. What you’ll learn Drawing shapes (X and Y positions) Drawing images Translate, rotate and scale Writing a function Resources for further development How to use and interpret the built-in examples Language reference Introduction to using libraries Introduction to the community 

Company: MadFabLab is an open-access workshop for Manchester’s hackers, makers, and tinkerers – whether actively curious, seasoned anti-disciplinarian, or any/all points in between – providing shared tools and space to create amazing new things, play and experiment with new technology, and meet and collaborate.

Tutor: Chris Ball has worked on projects from small musical instruments to large scale interactive sculptures. He has a degree in Audio Technology, and specialises in sound and light. He has several years experience working with Arduino and associated electronics.
