In 2018, Voluntary Arts Wales is undertaking a 12-month project to support the development of our understanding of the different forms of creativity that exist in diverse communities throughout Wales.

The project is called ‘Creative Community Conversations’ (Sgyrsiau Creadigol Cymunedol): a year-long exploration of the breadth and diversity of everyday creative activity that takes places across Wales. Our work is informed by an expert panel, and we will be conducting an extensive series of open conversations and engagement events. Our findings will be collected into written and video reports.

We know that there is a huge amount of creative activity that takes place every single day throughout Wales. The aim is to surface and celebrate the full extent of voluntary and amateur creative activity within different communities of place and interest, which predominantly exists without the support of public funds, and explore whether the shared undertaking of creative cultural activity has a part to play in contributing to the building of resilient and inclusive communities.

The Expert Panel members are:

  • Helen Keatley (VAW Chair)
  • Russell Todd
  • Guy O'Donnell
  • Leanne Rahman
  • Joy Kent
  • Bryn Jones

The project is supported by the Arts Council of Wales.
