The Grants for the Arts Libraries fund invests National Lottery money in projects delivered by public libraries or library authorities working in partnership with artists and cultural organisations across all art forms.

The fund aims to inspire innovative partnerships between libraries and art organisations.

Public libraries and those managing public libraries can apply for grants of between £1,000 and 100,000 to inspire innovative partnerships between libraries and art organisations to help engage people in England in art activities and help artists and arts organisations in carrying out their work. The grant will fund up to 90% of the cost of an activity.

In addition to activities involving theatre, music, dance, literature, visual arts, and combined arts, Arts Council England can also consider funding a broad variety of activities such as festivals, exhibitions, workshop programmes, residencies, digital projects, performances.

The lead applicant must be a:

  • public library
  • public library authority
  • network of public library authorities, or
  • an organisation managing a public library authority as defined under the Public Libraries & Museums Act 1964
