Location: Cardross, Argyll & Bute
Deadline: 28 August

Kilmahew / St Peter's is taking part in Doors Open Day Argyll and Bute on 23 and 24 September 2017, providing a rare chance for members of the public to visit St Peter’s Seminary before construction begins. NVA is now looking for Volunteer Guides to show people around and help support this special event.

The ambitious project to reclaim St Peter’s Seminary and its stunning woodland surroundings is being led by NVA, who aim to bring this remarkable place back to life over the next few years, reinstating it as a cultural venue and visitor attraction. This pre-opening tour aims to provide a welcoming and friendly atmosphere for people to visit the Seminary, whatever the weather, and find out about the plans to restore this iconic modernist ruin.

NVA prides itself on its volunteers and the enthusiasm they contribute. The weekend is set to be another laughter filled, tea & coffee heavy, fun and busy time.

Role and responsibilities:

  • Attend a training session to meet other volunteers, learn more about the building and what’s
  • Work in teams to lead members of the public around St Peter’s Seminary (NOT a spoken guided tour – map handed out in advance)
  • A large amount of walking to and from the site
  • Adhering to strict health and safety procedures
  • Supporting event and project staff as required

Who would suit this opportunity?

  • You enjoy being outdoors, and willing to be outside in a mixture of weather conditions
  • You enjoy walking and able to walk for more than an hour at a time – at a slow/medium pace
  • You enjoy working as part of a team and have good communication skills
  • You’re enthusiastic about St Peter’s

  • Full training and support will be given prior to the event, including on-site induction
  • Refreshments and lunch provided for event days
  • Aged 16 – 25? Hours spent volunteering at this event will contribute to the 'Challenge' part  of your Saltire Award (www.saltireawards.org.uk)
  • Logged volunteering hours can be redeemed for Hour Trade vouchers. Hour Trade vouchers can be used against future course or experiences at St Peter’s Travel expenses reimbursed

  • All Volunteer Guides must be able to attend the training session (Saturday 9 September, 10am – 12noon) and both event days (Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 September, 9.30am – 6pm).

This opportunity is for people aged 16+
