Remake Scotland is a creative reuse charity and social enterprise providing low cost friendly resources for recreation, education and leisure time activities. We currently run 4 projects as part of our creative and socially inclusive community hub. The Scrapstore collects clean, safe, reusable and redundant waste from business and industry for re-use as art, craft, play and educational materials by community groups, schools and individuals. Examples of scrap supplies include string, card, wallpaper, textiles, cork, wool, cardboard tubes and all kinds of manufactured plastic. We also sell second hand furniture for upcycling purposes. The Remake Scrapstore diverted more than 17 tonnes of waste from landfill from January to June last year. The Craft Space is used for community classes, private hire and parties where we help you transform the unwanted and discarded into new things to cherish! The Shed is our kitted out woodworking workshop with benches and handtools. Remake Outreach provides creative reuse learning opportunities and workshops to schools, community organisations and residential care homes. Remake relies heavily on volunteers, without them it would not be able to provide the service – from our creative team prepping educational workshops to our sorters processing donations to administration staff, from supporting young adults on our Duke of Edinburgh and work experience programmes to our governing Board of Trustees. Remake works with volunteers from a variety of ages, abilities and backgrounds with a particular focus on inter-generational community building and skills sharing. Remake also collaborates with local makers, artists and mentors to showcase creative and practical skills. How are you funded and what in-kind support do you receive? Remake is a charity and also a social enterprise so we are funded by a number of different income streams including funded projects supported by grants, revenue raised by annual affiliation to our Scrapstore, running community classes and birthday parties. Our Scrapstore depends on donations of clean business and some domestic waste. How can people get involved in your activities? Join the Remake Scrapstore to access low-cost and alternative art supplies. The annual Remake Pass runs from 1st April until 31st March every year and must be renewed on 1 April each year. The Individual Pass is £12 and the Group Pass (with up to 4 named individuals) is £25. And remember if you are kind enough to volunteer at Remake, you can enjoy all the benefits of the Annual Pass free of charge! We accept clean, non-toxic and non-hazardous business and commercial materials that can be reused, recycled and reloved. We take paper, card, fabric, tools, plastic, haberdashery items - see our website for more information. (http://www.remakescotland.co.uk/scrapstore/scrapstore-donations/). What is the most bizarre thing you have upcycled? The Remake creative team have upcycled many weird and wonderful things over the years. The list includes Daleks and Star Wars puppets made from our amazing collection of scrapstore materials. We also worked with a local Perth high school to make a pH spectrum using UV glue to stick discarded test tubes filled with pH solution onto leftover mirror. Do you have any upcoming events / opportunities / workshops that people can get involved with? From January 2016 we will be changing our opening hours to Wed 10-2pm, Thu 4-8pm, Fri 10-2pm and Sat 10-2pm. Workshops coming up in 2016 include: 12-13 March, Rush & Cane Workshop; 8-12 August, Upholstery Intensive Workshop; 19 November, Footstool Workshop.
