Opening Doors We're making new music and art together celebrating local people and places If you live in the Ballymena, Carrick or Larne area and you think it’s time to turn over a new leaf, to look to a new horizon, to see your place differently and find new connections – to celebrate what’s great about here and its people – then help us open some doors! Opening Doors is an art and music project in collaboration with Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, Wall2Wall Music, Queens University, Belfast and Voluntary Arts Ireland to make new music and art with local people from Ballymena, Larne, Carrick and surrounding areas taking place between April and September 2018. There will be new music and new art created with each new work inspired by your stories, ideas, lyrics, musical riffs and more. The project starts in April with music workshops in which you can contribute to: a Soundscape - help to create a new sound design piece by recording, editing and manipulating sounds using music technology. writing the lyrics for Opening Doors, a new work by composer Sarah Murphy and librettist Colin Hassard fanfare and processional music for the final performance of Opening Doors - the world premier of which will take place across three venues in September. The fanfare and processional music will be played to lead audience and musicians from venue to venue. The project is also a platform for you as creative citizens of Mid and East Antrim to open the door to your neighbour and to the world – to say ‘come on in – you’re welcome.’ We want to involve everyone with a passion for music and art in the area, whatever level of experience. Later in the year, new art will be created to transform the entrances of key community buildings across the Mid and East Antrim area. Watch this space for new announcements. So dive on in, register and get involved in the music workshops happening between April and June this year - we're looking for musicians, writers and curious and imaginative people who want to make a difference.
