We're making new music and art together celebrating local people and places

If you live in the Ballymena, Carrick or Larne area and you think it’s time to turn over a new leaf, to look to a new horizon, to see your place differently and find new connections – to celebrate what’s great about here and its people – then help us open some doors!

Opening Doors is an art and music project in collaboration with Mid and East Antrim Borough CouncilWall2Wall Music, Queens University, Belfast and Voluntary Arts Ireland to make new music and art with local people from Ballymena, Larne, Carrick and surrounding areas.

Opening Doors started back in April 2018 with Music workshops across the borough.

Local people have helped to create a new sound design piece by recording, editing and manipulating sounds using music technology.

Composer Sarah Murphy and librettist Colin Hassard are in the process of writing a piece for the Whitehead Orchestra and a community chorus involving Island Voices and others. Creative citizens from Ballymena, Larne and Carrick have contributed stories and words which will inspire the new work and the world premier will take place in late Autumn 2018.

Opening Doors is a platform for you as a creative citizen of Mid and East Antrim to open the door to your neighbour and to the world – to say ‘come on in – you’re welcome.’

We want to involve everyone with a passion for music and art in the area, whatever level of experience.

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council are recruiting 4 Artists/Facilitators to create new art to transform the entrances of key community buildings across the Mid and East Antrim area.

You can also sign up for the Opening Doors Summer Workshop with The Music Yard in Larne from:

Tuesday 24 to Friday 27 July 2018.

So dive on in and get involved - we're looking for partner groups, artists, musicians, writers and curious and imaginative people who want to make a difference.
