Opportunities Arts volunteering Phosphoros Theatre: Trustees Area: LondonDeadline: 5pm, Wednesday 29 January 2020 Phosphoros Theatre is an ambitious, grassroots refugee theatre company that has been making work performed by refugee actors since 2015. It makes and holds space for refugee communities, with a focus on current and former unaccompanied minors, to have their voices and stories heard through the making and watching of socially engaged theatre. Through training and collaborating with the core team of refugee actors it creates bold, innovative theatre for the mainstream stage in an environment of high expectations. It nurtures members of the company to develop lasting and transferable skills that support them as emerging artists, community leaders and young adults in their chosen field. As Phosphoros Theatre’s activities and ambitions continue to grow, it is changing its structure from a Community Interest Company to become a Charity. It is seeking 4-6 passionate individuals to join its first ever board of Trustees, to work with each other and the three Artistic Directors to make its vision possible. Phosphoros Theatre is looking for people who share its love of high quality and inclusive theatre and performance, as well as its commitment to working with, for and alongside refugee communities. It is keen to meet people who can bring skills, knowledge and both professional and lived experience that will help it scale up. It is looking for people who can think strategically and creatively, work collaboratively and want to make a significant contribution to Phosphoros Theatre’s future, as well as the wider theatre sector. In line with all charities, Trustees are unpaid volunteers. Trustees must be able to commit to attending quarterly Board meetings and at least one Phosphoros Theatre production per year. Trustees must make time to read paperwork in advance of Board meetings, and may be required from time to time to contribute to other activities as appropriate, for example fundraising, interviews and business plans, as agreed within specified task groups. Board meetings are usually held on weekday evenings in central London locations, and, where possible, will be arranged at least 2 months ahead. Travel costs will be paid if they are a barrier.
