Opportunities Arts volunteering The Arts Society Sussex Area: Treasurer Area: Sussex The Arts Society Sussex Area is looking for a volunteer Treasurer to take office during the autumn of 2019 or the spring of 2020. The Arts Society is the operating name of NADFAS (The National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies). It is a national company limited by guarantee with charitable status. There are 90,000 members worldwide in 387 local societies.The charitable objectives of The Arts Society are: the promotion and advancement of the education of the public in the cultivation, appreciation and study of the decorative and fine arts; the conservation and preservation of the artistic heritage of the United Kingdom and other countries for the benefit of the public; and the advancement of the arts, culture and heritage, in particular, but without limitation, the decorative and fine arts.There are 24 local societies in Sussex, of which 6 are located in the Arun and Chichester area. The Area organisation is a lightweight bureaucracy which coordinates the educational and volunteering activities of local societies, offers advice, liaises with the national headquarters in London and organises special interest seminars open to any local member. The Sussex Area is an organisational subdivision of the national society and its charitable registration is therefore the same. Some local societies have independent charitable status. Membership of local societies is by annual subscription (typically £40-50 a year).The main task for the volunteer Area Treasurer is to manage Sussex Area finances through its account with CAF Bank (Charities Aid Foundation). The Area Treasurer principally works online from home. However, there are two Committee meetings a year, currently held in Henfield, a Spring Forum currently held in Haywards Heath and an Autumn Forum which rotates between local societies. The projected locations are Midhurst (2019) and Rudgwick (2020). Area meetings are normally held on weekdays, especially Fridays, during the morning and early afternoon. An informal meeting of local society Chairs or their representatives is currently held at the beginning of June in Kirdford (near Billingshurst).
