Since launching at 10 Downing Street in 2013, Year Here have worked with 113 aspiring social entrepreneurs and launched award-winning social ventures like Fat Macy’s, Chatterbox and The Hard Yard. It has a deeply committed team of 5 surrounded by a faculty of 70 social innovation experts – the great and the good of Britain’s social impact world.

Its faculty includes social entrepreneurs, policy makers and innovation experts – from prison philanthropist Lady Edwina Grosvenor to multi-award-winning social designer Lauren Currie OBE and the poet Lemn Sissay.

Year Here is a platform for young professionals who want to build smart responses to social problems. Over one year, Fellows learn from, and design with, people hit hardest by inequality - and go on to found some of the most promising social impact startups in the country. Applications are currently open for Specialist Fellowships programme (starting in February 2018) until 7 January. Specialist Fellowships are for applicants with experience in design, tech, commerce or on the frontline.

About the Fellowship:
Supported by a network including The Cabinet Office, Bain & Co, and Nesta – if selected, you will:
Learn at the frontline. Your first 5 months will be spent in homeless shelters, care homes and community centres, learning first-hand from the people at the frontline of inequality - and designing innovative measures to boost your placements impact.
Learn from expert faculty. You’ll be assigned a personal mentor and receive extensive training from a faculty of more than 70 leaders from across the social innovation field – people who specialise in everything from entrepreneurship to government policy, and from community development to service design.
Build ventures. You’ll build your own projects from the get-go – from frontline innovations to startup social ventures. A third of our alumni run a social business that they founded during the programme.
Find your people. You’ll spend a lot of time with Year Here’s team and faculty, and other Fellows and Alumni these will become your support network, collaborators and co-founders. This is a unique opportunity to join a growing movement of entrepreneurs and activists.

Beyond Year Here:
In a year’s time, Year Here expects you to be running your own social enterprise, for a fast-growing social start-up or forging an exciting portfolio of careers. 96% of its Fellows are in paid employment within three months of graduating from Year Here. A year after graduating, 32% run their own social venture, 48% work for another social enterprise or charity, and the remainder work in government, innovation, frontline or private sector roles. Its alumni have founded 18 social ventures including Settle, supporting vulnerable young people who are moving into their first home and Birdsong, a fashion brand selling clothes made by vulnerable women – and ploughing its profits back into the women's charities who support them.

Costs & Funding:
There are no course fees - Year Here is free. Unlike a traditional Master’s degree or postgraduate course, Year Here covers your tuition fee and your travel costs throughout the programme. Your lunch costs will also be covered during the frontline placement phase. Although the course is intensive, the majority of Fellows do freelance or part-time work in their evenings, weekends and holidays – as graphic designers, tutors or journalists, for example.
Year Here will support your living costs by:
Offering a bursary of up to £5,000 to a small number of Fellows.
Offering match funding on crowdfunded student loan platform EdAid
Giving you access to Professional and Career Development loans of between £300 and £10,000.
Providing access to discounted accommodation schemes.
Giving you opportunities to pick up paid work on the side during your Fellowship.
